With there being no other 2nd season storm opportunities this year, my son Ryan and I chose to chase this Marginal, 2% Tornado Risk day as the Storm Prediction Center had at least mentioned the potential of tornadoes in their forecast.  The risk was upgraded to a Slight Risk in the evening.

We headed South and stopped for a leisurely lunch in Perryville, Missouri.  We kept our eye on the radar and noticed a couple storms begin to develop out to our southwest.  We moved south to Cape Girardeau, Missouri and put our attention on the northern most cell over Marquand, Missouri as it was moving east toward us.

We watched the cell, but unfortunately, as that cell moved closer to us, the cell began losing intensity and weakening.

We then turned our attention to the other cells to the south which were now intensifying.

We moved down to Scott City, Missouri and worked our way west, then south as the storm began turning southeast.  Our goal was to get to the south before the now Severe Warned Storm overtook us.  We set our target at Dexter, Missouri.

As we reached Dexter, we chose to push a bit more east to Essex, Missouri out in the flat, flood plain to watch the storm come toward us.  As the back end of the storm came into view over the hilltop, we took note of a lot of lowerings and movement under the wall cloud as we watched.

The rotating part of the storm came right over our location, but the wall cloud was now disappearing and the intensity of the rotation seemed to calm way down as well.  The light of day was now gone as the sun had set and after the interesting part of the storm passed us by, we started our journey back home.
